The representative of the sovereign at the general assembly of the [[Church of Scotland]]. After the assembly has been constituted and has appointed its moderator, the [[Lord High Commissioner]] presents his commission in evidence that he is to be regarded as the royal representative. He is invited to address the assembly, which he customarily assures of the monarch's intention to maintain Presbyterian church government in Scotland. The Lord High Commissioner is not a member of assembly in his official capacity, but may be a member in his private capacity if he holds also a valid commission from a presbytery.
