John Timothy Stone

1868-1954. Presbyterian minister. Educated at Amherst College and Auburn Seminary, he held Presbyterian pastorates in New York State, Baltimore, and Fourth Presbyterian, Chicago (1909-30). His work in Chicago became the basis for the New Life Movement in the Presbyterian church nationally, while his own congregation showed remarkable growth. He served as chaplain in World War I. From 1928 to 1940 he was president of McCormick Seminary, Chicago, being made emeritus both there and at Fourth Church. He was moderator of his denomination's general assembly in 1913, and the author of devotional and practical books, notably Winning Men (1946).
