Johann Kaspar Suicer

1620-1684. Swiss Reformed theologian. Born at Frauenfeld and educated at the French academies of Montauban and Saumur, he taught Latin, Greek, and Hebrew at Zurich from 1644, and was professor of Greek at the Collegium Carolinum (1660-83). After publishing several works on Greek linguistics, he brought out his magnum opus, Thesaurus Ecclesiasticus e Patribus Graecis Ordine Alphabetico (2 vols., 1682). This work shows immense erudition and extensive reading of patristic literature, and is still indispensable for students of the vocabulary of the Greek Fathers and of Greek ecclesiastical institutions (2nd enlarged ed., 1728). His son, Johann Heinrich (1646-1705), succeeded him at the Collegium Carolinum in 1683.
