Jenny Geddes

The supposed instigator in 1637 of a riot in St. Giles', Edinburgh, against the imposition of “Laud's Liturgy.” A little investigation might suggest that the only historically authenticated Jenny figured in the High Street of Edinburgh at the Restoration of Charles II more than twenty years later, as a staunch Royalist. It may, of course, be that the lady, older and wiser, had had a change of heart, but it is hard to avoid the conclusion that despite the memorial in St. Giles', the monumental Jenny is a myth.
