Jehozabad

JEHOZABAD (jē-hŏz'a-băd, Heb. yehôzāvādh, Jehovah has bestowed)

A son of Shimrith, a Moabitess. He conspired against King Joash (2Chr.24.26).One of the eight sons of Obed-Edom, a doorkeeper of the tabernacle in the days of David (1Chr.26.4). He is not to be confused with the Obed-Edom of 2Sam.6.10-2Sam.6.12.A Benjamite in the days of King Jehoshaphat (2Chr.17.18). He was commander of 180,000 soldiers prepared for war.



JEHOZABAD jĭ hō’ zə băd (יהֹ֣וזָבָ֔ד, Yahweh gives). 1. Son of Shomer; a servant of King Jehoash of Judah who murdered the king at Millo (2 Kings 12:21). The parallel version (2 Chron 24:26) identifies him as the son of Shimrith the Moabitess.

2. A Korahite gatekeeper of the Temple, son of Obed-edom (1 Chron 26:4).

3. A military officer of the tribe of Benjamin serving under Jehoshaphat (2 Chron 17:18). See Jozabad.

(yehozabhadh, "Yahweh has bestowed"):

(1) A servant of King Jehoash of Judah. According to 2Ki 12:21 (22), he was a son of Shomer, but 2Ch 24:26 makes him "son of Shimrith the Moabitess."

(2) A Korahite doorkeeper, son of Obed-edom (1Ch 26:4).

(3) A Benjamite, one of King Jehoshaphat’s warriors (2Ch 17:18).
