Jakob Clemens
d.1558?. Flemish musical composer. He was called “Clemens non Papa” to distinguish him from a priest of that name in Flanders or from Pope Clement VII (1523-34). He may have been imperial choirmaster under the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V (1519-21). His sacred compositions, many published posthumously, include metrical psalms, Masses, motets, and chansons, and there are indications works were interrupted by an untimely death.
