Henry Grattan Guinness

1835-1910. Evangelist and writer. Born near Dublin and educated at New College, London, he was ordained an evangelist (1857), preached in Europe and America (1857-72), and had a part in the conversion of Dr. Barnardo in Dublin (1866). He founded the East London Institute for training missionaries (1873), the Livingstone Inland Mission in the Congo (1878), and other missions in South America and India, and all of these societies were in 1899 amalgamated into the Regions Beyond Missionary Union, which supported nearly one hundred and sent out more than one thousand missionaries. In 1903 he made a missionary tour of the world. His books include The Divine Programme of the World's History, Romanism and Reformation, History Unveiling Prophecy, and grammars of the Congo language.
