Henry Allen Ironside

“Harry”) (1876-1951. Bible teacher and author. Born in Toronto, he moved to California in 1886. Although never ordained, he began preaching when fourteen years old. For a time a Salvation Army officer, he later joined the Plymouth Brethren (1896). For over fifty years he traveled widely as a home missionary, evangelist, and Bible teacher. After 1924 he held meetings under the auspices of Moody Bible Institute, was visiting professor at Dallas Theological Seminary (1925-43), pastor of Moody Memorial Church, Chicago (1930-48), and author of over sixty books and pamphlets, mostly biblical and popular, including Things Seen and Heard in Bible Lands (1936), In the Heavenlies (1937), Lamp of Prophecy (1939), The Way of Peace (1940), and The Great Parenthesis (1943). He died on a preaching tour in New Zealand.
