Glazing

GLAZING, the RSV rendering of the Heb. כֶּ֣סֶף ֭סִיגִים (KJV) “silver dross.” It is thought that the term s p / b s q which occurs in the Ugaritic Tale of Aght II, vi: 36, means “white glaze” and this meaning has been applied in Proverbs 26:23, the only occurrence in the Bible. The Heb. phrase prob. refers not to Silver (Ag) but to a shiny metalic oxide of Lead (Pb), PbO which has been used for millennia as a pigment, litharge and as a glaze on pottery.
