George Park Fisher
1827-1909. Church historian. Born in Wrentham, Massachusetts, he graduated from Brown University in 1847, continuing his studies at the Yale Divinity School, at Andover Seminary, and in Germany. From 1854 to 1861 he was a pastor, then he joined the faculty of Yale Divinity School, where he became professor of ecclesiastical history. He was a prolific writer whose first major work, The History of the Reformation (1873), was followed by others dealing with early Christianity and the problems of apologetics.
