1852-1908. Evangelist and founder of The Mission. Born in Sweden, he migrated in 1869. He was influenced by Moody to become an evangelist to Swedish immigrants in north-central and western United States. He was ordained in 1881 and engaged in successful evangelism in Scandinavia and Germany from 1881 to 1890. In the latter year he led in the founding of the Scandinavian Alliance Mission, known as The Evangelical Alliance Mission since 1949, and was its general director from 1896 to 1908. In his evangelism on every continent he stressed Christ's second coming.
