Franz Liszt

1811-1886. Hungarian composer and pianist. One of the most influential figures of the Romantic era in music, he is famed not only as a superlative pianist and composer, but as one of the great innovators of the nineteenth century. His interest and involvement in religious music is not so generally recognized. He wrote three large-scale settings of the Mass, two oratorios, and an assortment of other sacred works.
