Originally a branch of the Cistercian Order, so named because they had their home at Les Feuillans. Although they were directly under Pitaea, they became an independent order under the leadership of Jean de la Barrière. He reestablished the early strict discipline of the order. In 1595 the pope forbade Cîteaux to claim any jurisdiction over the monastery, and confirmed its independence.
