Fenced City

FENCED CITY (usually FORTIFIED CITY in RSV). Technical term for walled cities and walled villages in KJV OT. Heb. words are “mĭb-şär’” (inaccessible place), “bä-şōōr’” (inaccessible), and “me-şōō-rä'” (fortified place). Other words which can designate a fortified city or village are “mä-'ōz’” (“place of strength”; Isa 23:14; Dan 11:31) and “me-şōō-dä'” (“place difficult to approach”; 2 Sam 5:7) though both more typically refer to a purely military stronghold.
