East Sea, Eastern Sea

EAST SEA, EASTERN SEA (הַיָּ֥ם הַקַּדְמוֹנִ֖י). A name appearing in Ezekiel 47:18; Joel 2:20; Zechariah 14:8 for the Dead Sea. Its location on the eastern border of Israel makes the name appropriate. In the minor prophets it is opposed to the “western sea” (hinder sea), the Mediterranean.
