Cyamon (Jokneam)

CYAMON (JOKNEAM) sī’ ə mən, jŏk ne ăm (Κυαμών; יָקְנֳעָ֥ם). Cyamon is referred to in the apocryphal book of Judith (7:3) as a place “which faces Esdraelon.” Some scholars have felt that this name is a corruption for Jokneam. There seems to be little evidence to support this conjecture.

Jokneam was a Canaanite city conquered under Joshua (Josh 12:22) and assigned to the territory of Zebulun (19:11). Later it appears to have been given to the Levites (21:34). Modern identification is Tell Qeimum.
