Beadle

Sometimes called the church officer, the beadle has been for four centuries one of the most distinctive personalities in the life and lore of the Scottish churches. “Minister's man,” custodian of the church buildings, guide, philosopher and friend to old and young alike, he has figured in more anecdotes and been etched by more pens than anyone except the minister himself.
