Bassendyne Bible

The first edition of the Bible in English published in Scotland. Thomas Bassendyne (d.1577), the king's printer in Edinburgh, was granted a license by the privy council to print it. The NT appeared in 1576, the whole Bible in 1579. The version used was that of the Geneva Bible.*
