Bands

BANDS. In English the word has two common meanings: that which holds together or binds, and a company of men. Both meanings are found in Scripture. In the NT reference is made to the “Italian band” (Acts.10.1 kjv; niv “Italian Regiment”), a cohort of Roman soldiers stationed at Caesarea, and the “Augustan Band” (Acts.27.1; niv “Imperial Regiment”), a cohort to which the Roman centurion Julius, who had charge of Paul on his voyage to Rome, belonged.
