ANANIAH (ăn'a-nī'ah, Heb. ‘ănanyâh, Jehovah is a protector)

The father of Maaseiah and grandfather of Azariah (Neh.3.23).A town of Benjamin (Neh.11.32).



ANANIAH ăn’ ə nī’ ə (עֲנָֽנְיָ֖ה). 1 The father of Maaseiah and grandfather of Azariah who helped to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem under Nehemiah (Neh 3:23).

2. A town of Benjamin occupied by Jews after the return from the Captivity (Neh 11:32); perhaps modern el’Aziriyeh (Bethany).

`ananyah, ("Yah has covered"):

(1) Grandfather of Azariah. He assisted in repairing the walls of Jerusalem after his return from the exile (Ne 3:23).

(2) A town of Benjamin mentioned in connection with Nob and Hazor (Ne 11:32). It is commonly identified with Beit Hanina, between three and four miles North-Northwest from Jerusalem.
