AIAH (ā'ya, Heb. ’ayyâh, falcon)

A Horite (Gen.36.24; 1Chr.1.40).The father of Rizpah, Saul’s concubine (2Sam.3.7; 2Sam.21.8).



AIAH ā’ yə (אַיָּ֣ה, falcon). KJV has AJAH in Genesis 36:24. 1. A Horite, son of Zibeon; ancestor of a clan in Edom (Gen 36:24; 1 Chron 1:40).

2. Father of Rizpah, a concubine of Saul. Ishbosheth falsely accused Abner of having an affair with her (2 Sam 3:7). Her sons were handed over to the Gibeonites by David for hanging (21:8-11).

International Standard Bible Encyclopedia (1915)

(’ayyah, "falcon"; once in the King James Version Ajah, Ge 36:24):

(1) A Horite, son of Zibeon, and brother of Anah, who was father of one of Esau’s wives (Ge 36:24; 1Ch 1:40).

(2) Father of Rizpah, a concubine of Saul, about whom Ishbosheth falsely accused Abner (2Sa 3:7), and whose sons were hanged to appease the Gibeonites, whom Saul had wronged (2Sa 21:8-11).
