Foundations in Theological Studies
All Christians have been commissioned by Christ to be His agents of hope in the world. As ministry leaders we share an even greater responsibility to share the Good News of God to men and women who desperately need to come into personal relationship with Him. But can we be truly effective in our 21st century context lacking a biblical understanding of the gospel message? And how do we communicate that gospel in an increasingly pluralistic world where our truth claims find a very different reception from even a generation ago. This certificate in basic theological foundations will help you understand better what you believe, how to communicate a rich gospel message to a challenging world, and how to maintain a personal walk with Christ that supports and authenticates and empowers your witness.
|1||What is the Gospel?||With Marc Cortez, Ph.D. This Lay Leadership Training Course is designed to help believers reconsider their understanding of the Gospel. What is the Gospel? How is the Gospel related to the eternal plan of God? What does the Gospel mean to each believer today? Dr. Marc Cortez, Academic Dean of Western Seminary, answers these and other critical questions that, in the answering, will help to revolutionize your Christian walk. 10 video sessions. Approximately 5 hours.|
|2||Gospel, Salvation and Other Religions||With Todd Miles, Ph.D. Western Christianity’s interaction with world religions used to be, for the most part, overseas. Today, “religious others” often live next door. At a changing time when one public prayer spoken during the 2009 U.S. presidential inauguration festivities was addressed to “O god of our many understandings,” the evangelical Christian church should do more than simply dismiss non-Christian religions as pagan without argument or comment. The Church needs a theology of religions that is Christ-honoring, biblically faithful, intellectually satisfying, compassionate, and that will encourage Spirit-powered mission. 12 video sessions. Approximately 7 hours.|
|3||Spiritual Formation and Devotional Intimacy||With Gary Thomas, M.A., D.D. This seminar was presented at the Lord’s Grace Church in Vancouver, British Columbia, as part of the 10 seminar Koinos "Certificate in Christian Foundations." In this seminar, originally titled "Christian Spirituality 101," Dr. Thomas provides an introduction to the biblical and historical roots of Christian spirituality, the spiritual disciplines, spiritual direction, and the pursuit of personal and corporate holiness. 11 video sessions. Approximately 5 hours. Lecture 6, Sacred Pathways (Part 2), is not available at this time.|
|4||Understanding Christian Theology||With Bruce Ware, Ph.D. This is a general survey of Bible doctrine designed to synthesize and outline each of the major areas of systematic theology, including prolegomena, bibliology, theology proper, Christology, angelology, and pneumatology. 10 audio sessions. Approximately 10 hours.|
