You Don’t Have to Be a Teacher to Lead a Small Group
Let our class on small groups help
One thing we hear all the time from churches is this: “We just don’t have enough small group leaders.” And almost always, it comes down to the same hesitation—people feel like they’re not teachers.
But here’s the good news: you don’t have to be. That’s what our classes are for. The teaching is already done for you by gifted instructors. A great small group leader simply needs to guide the conversation—ask thoughtful questions, listen well, and help people connect.
Of course, there’s still an art to leading a group well. That’s why we’re really excited to introduce a new class by Ron Pyle, Learning to Lead a Small Group. Ron brings years of experience and wisdom, and he walks through things like:
- how to lead a small group with confidence
- what makes a group healthy
- how to encourage honest sharing
- how to guide meaningful discussions
- and even how to navigate conflict when it comes up.
Ron has been a professor at Whitworth University since 1988, specializing in interpersonal communication and preaching. He’s won multiple teaching awards and regularly trains church leaders—but honestly, this class on small groups might be our favorite. Because small groups matter. They’re where real community happens. They’re where people grow, open up, and walk through life together. And the more equipped leaders we have, the stronger those communities become.
