Chapter Material

  1. Read this chapter from beginning to end, but do not study it carefully until you have listened to the lecture. Frankly, for the beginning student, this study can be rather daunting because of the many vowel changes that can occur with the addition of an object suffix to a verb. Focus your attention on the spelling of the object suffixes and on the recognition of the Perfect, Imperfect and Imperative preformatives and sufformatives which have already been mastered. It will take some time and significant exposure to object suffixes on verbs before you will become comfortable with this aspect of Hebrew grammar. Be patient. For the most part, this topic will be handled inductively through the grammar and later exercises.

  2. Listen to Gary's full lecture

  3. Study every section of the chapter carefully. Both for study and for reference, we have provided two summary charts for the spelling of object suffixes on verbs: one for the spelling of suffixes on the Perfect (19.13) and another for those on the Imperfect (19.14). These two charts will be helpful for Chapter 19 exercises and also for the later Biblical translations in the grammar.

  4. Listen to the vocabulary (Biblical examples)
