Dr Guthrie’s easy going style made this series of lectures very enjoyable to listen to as well as being of practical value in studying the Bible. I have already listened to ‘How to Study Your Bible’ by Dr Strauss and cannot see a great deal of difference between the two apart from the presentation and approach. I found myself a little confused when Dr Guthrie suggested that his audience should read certain chapters in a book and Dr Guthrie also refers to a chart. I assume that both were available to the original class since I was unable to find any reference to these in the outlines - although it is quite possible that I am suffering from the defective male gene (Dr Guthrie refers to) when it come to looking for things which are staring one in the face. In his final lecture Dr Guthrie mentioned the possibility of giving an second series of talks which would go into more depth. I would welcome the opportunity to listen to such a series of talks. My thanks to Dr Guthrie and all those at biblicaltraining.org.
A more indepth Inductive Study
Hi Galahad,
I know I'm replying quite a while after you posted it, so I'm not sure if you will get it, but maybe someone else can benefit. One of the difficulties with free resources online are their lack of completeness. I use these kinds of resources frequently and often hit a pitfall, such as slides the lecturer is talking about are unavailable or they make pointed references to a certain book or material.
One benefit I have found is, when they mention an extra resource (such as a book), I try to go find it online and either get the book itself to read or quickly find reviews that have been posted online to skim through. I approach my studies quite organically. Several lectures in the past, the instructor mentioned that it would be a good idea to have a background in optics or the nature of light. So, I stopped listening to those lectures and went out and found a lecture series on optics, physics, light, etc and spent the next few days studying up on that subject before returning to the original lecture series. I was shocked at how much this helps with comprehension. You definitely could not do this in a traditional classroom environment.
As for a more indepth lecture series on Inductive Bible Study, I'm not sure if one here at BT will ever become available. I did find some additional sources for Dr. Guthrie's lectures. His site itself has some pretty good links to bible study resources, might be worth a look around.

If you really want to dig deep into Inductive Bible Study, check out Emmaus School of Biblical Studies online lectures. It appears as if they are putting their entire curriculum recordings online for free. Great resource.
