Films Illustrating Buddhism
I thought it might be nice to have a place to post recommendations for films that discuss Buddhism. I have seen three documentaries over the last month that might be of interest to others:
Burma VJ: Reporting from a Closed Country (2008) and Tibet: Cry of the Snow Lion (2002) discuss a bit about the important roles monks have politically. Buddhism is really the only comfort the common people have under their oppressive governments. It was to touching to watch how the monks risk their own lives for others. This religious persecution going on in Asia is most likely strengthening the faith of these people. The implications for Christian missions might be interesting.
Also, Unmistaken Child (2008) was an unusual find. This is the story of a monk seeking the reincarnation of his teacher, a recently-deceased lama. The amount of time, effort, and resources that go into such a task is astounding, and the methods incorporated are puzzling and even humorous at times for a cultural outsider like me.

I should add: Tibet (2002) actually shows adherents "turning the wheel"! I was happy to be able to identify something, using the knowledge gained so far in this course.

Thanks for the recommendations. I will include them on the class page as suggestions for additional resources.
