One thing that surprised me about this lecture was Buddhism's intolerance with respect to other religions by claiming, in some sense, to have the "one right way." Why was this surprising? Because that is the accusation commonly made about Christianity.
On the surface, Buddhism appears to be the perfect religion for the educated, modern soul. It was built on ideas of tolerance, equality, etc. It easily melds into a variety of religious and cultural worldviews. It is constantly praised for its message of peace, ethnics, etc. And yet, why is this little key feature from it's teachings ignored? The Buddha says there's only one way, the Eight-Fold Path. How can anyone claim that Christians are more intolerant than Buddhists?
Worlds tolerance of Buddhism, etc , intolerance of Christianity,
Radically? The world will tolerate any and all other than true gospel biblical Christianity.
Re: Worlds tolerance of Buddhism, etc , intolerance of Christian
Good point. When non-Christians incorporate their religion into their art and science, it's called "culture" and "tradition." When Christians do so, it's called a threat. But I still think it might be a good idea for Christians to bring up this issue when non-Christians try to paint Buddhism as open and accepting.
